How to transform your creativity
into your dream home.
Are you a good candidate for a custom design project with us?
Frankly, custom design with us is not for everyone. Our collaborative creative process is more intense and time consuming than the standard home designer or architect experience. It is also more rewarding for the right person.
Who is the right person?
The right person has a sense of how they want their home to feel and delights in the creative process. We invite you to look closely at the photo’s on this website. You’ll notice the one (and only) thing the homes have in common is that they are all completely different. Why? Because each home is the product of the owner’s creativity and dreams combined with our creativity and knowledge of home design.
What is this home design creative process we keep talking about?
Through conversation, examples, and three dimensional computer modeling we dig into how you want to live your home and what you find beautiful. We don’t dictate what architecture is, or beauty, or taste for that matter. We challenge you to open your mind and see design and materials in new and surprising ways. We help you see how home design works for your property and lifestyle.
- Lifestyle first.
How you live your home is the foundation of any home design project. Who will live there? How often do you entertain? Is cooking a joy or a chore? Are you planning a family, grandkids, resale? There are as many questions as there are people and lifestyles.
- Add beauty
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and you are the beholder. Examples of design that inspires you are a great place to start. We’ll take special note of design features that repeatedly appear in you magazine clippings and photos.
- Finish with three dimensional computer modeling.
Three dimensional computer modeling of your home design project allows you to see the result before the hammer hits the nail. No visualizing. No limits to the number of changes. Together, in front of the computer, you’ll work with us. We can move walls, try on different window designs, and change up the roofline. We’ll exhaust our creative what-ifs until the home feels just right to you.
But what if we disagree about a design detail?
It is inevitable that people don’t always agree about art. We won’t impose our ideas on you. We will have a lively debate though. We’ll share our experience with you to be sure you understand any consequences such as going over budget or negatively affecting resale. In the end we’ll happily respect your decisions and draw what you want.
Doesn’t it cost a fortune to have a special home?
No. Special homes are born from thoughtful design not bags of money. Enough said.
What if this process doesn’t sound right for you but you still want something really special?
If you do not have an interest in this type of intense creative process or need a completed design tomorrow you can still have an amazing home. We offer a series of pre-packaged plans that are an expression of our creativity and years of experience.

Client Reviews
" I thought it would be difficult to explain the "look" but Red got it right away. My home is exactly what I wanted."
~Jan Wilson, Highlands, NC
"I think the reason we got exactly what we wanted was Red's collaborative design process. We especially love how the placement of the house and floor plan work together to take full advantage of natural light and our beautiful mountain views. We couldn't be happier with our home."
~Lorri Quinn, Cashiers, NC
"The key reason we are so happy with our home is the design process and the unique touches Red brought to the project. He was sensitive to what we wanted and worked diligently to revise and revise until he captured it. Specifically we appreciate the livability of the home with its floor plan that fits the site and takes advantage of our lake views."
